Russia is known for its brilliant folk crafts – you will easily find a proper present and enjoy the best masterpieces of the folk art!

Gzhel is a style of ceramics which takes its name from the village of Gzhel where it has been produced since 1802. The pottery is painted solid white with distinctive blue designs.

Khokhloma is a Russian wood painting handicraft style and national ornament known for its vivid flower patterns, red and gold colours over a black background. It dates back to the 17th century having originally appeared in the Nizhniy Novgorod region.

Palekh miniature is a folk handicraft of miniature painting which is done with tempera paints on varnished articles made of papier-mache (small boxes, cigarette and powder cases etc.). Characters from fairy tales, literary works and real life are painted with bright paint over the black background and are known for their delicate and smooth design.

Matryoshka dolls — probably the most famous Russian folk craft — refers to a set of wooden dolls of decreasing size placed one inside the other. Traditionally the dolls depict a woman dressed in sarafan, a long and shapeless Russian peasant jumper dress.
